I grew up in the Charlotte area and am an alumna of UNC-Chapel Hill (go heels!). In addition to my professional work, I have a range of personal research experience, specializing in breaking down “brick walls” and navigating paper trails across the United States.
Love the photo! I have a similar one from my family in the Tirol (Italy), taken after Lake Tret was created in 1921. The first introduced trout were transported by horseback from Lake Garda which is some 60 miles away.

Ok, that story’s so much cooler than mine! This photo was likely taken somewhere near Seattle–but it’s one of my favorites!

The three look as if they’re having a grand time in each other’s company–but where are the fishing poles?

A cousin told me they were hidden in the boat for the photo—I’m taking their word for it, ha!

Good answer! We’ll go with that. I’ll bet there was plenty of banter happening between the people in the picture and the people outside the frame taking the picture.

I can only imagine…it’s a great photo. One of the best I’ve found over the years! They definitely seem like they’re laughing about something.
